MY CHINA EXPERIENCE
My last trip to China was for an advanced course in acupuncture and herbs.
It has taken me a while to process what I’ve learned and re-enforced my basic foundation in Oriental Medicine (OM). I know now what I do on a much deeper level. I had a chance to
talk with some of the doctors who had been practicing OM for a long time and they pretty much said the same thing. It is about maintaining my energy to get the best results for a patient along with the
patient’s own attitude.
My day consisted being in different departments of acupuncture in the hospital with the Dr. of that department along with a translator. Over the two weeks my group and I had about five
different doctors, some had specialties and most had been practicing for 20 yrs or more. Some of the treatments I observed were for Bells Palsey, paralysis, stroke, children with autism, depression, schizophrenia,
arthritis, IBS, menopause, health maintenance plus many more.
We observed patient intakes, acupuncture techniques and points used for different conditions. Also, accessory techniques, like moxabustion or electric stimulation or cupping, which were
used for different conditions.
Then in the afternoon my small group of colleagues and I would go to a different location for a lecture. Each day we had a different topic like liver disease or urological disease,
emotional imbalance.
The classes were through Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine a world class teaching facility that has eight hospitals and a large teaching campus in Shanghai.
I loved going to Shanghai and am grateful for the experience. I am looking forward to going back.
The experience has grounded me in my work as a practitioner of Oriental Medicine which means you benefit.
You say “how this can help me or a loved one”? Well the answer is the same… Natural healing has been around a long time and continues to heal people from many
different conditions. We must learn that our body gets sick over time, which is why it takes time to heal. I think people who do use natural healing also have an extra benefit of becoming more aware of what
they need to change in there daily life to maintain health.
That is the beauty of Oriental Medicine to look at the whole person and their environment in order to become and stay healthy.
I look forward to continuing to giving my patients the best possible care through Oriental Medicine.
Peace,
Barbara Keenan Loster, Lc
